Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is the preeminent early childhood book gifting program in the world. Free books are mailed monthly to children from birth to their fifth birthday to promote the importance of early literacy.
Signal Centers is the local community partner in Hamilton County, managing enrollment and fundraising for the program.
We are currently looking for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library (DPIL) volunteers to assist our staff at local community events!
A significant portion of DPIL volunteer work involves representing the program at local events and engaging with families, with the goal of turning those connections into enrollments.
Event days and times may vary; traditionally, they may be held during weekday evenings or weekend hours.
Any child under the age of five is eligible for DPIL, and while tabling is part of the role, the heart of the work happens beyond the table:
Volunteers help by warmly greeting families, asking whether they have children who may be age-eligible, engaging children in simple literacy activities, and helping maintain the table display, especially during outdoor events where wind can be a factor.
Being approachable and enthusiastic truly makes a difference.
Volunteers and staff also assist with event preparation, which may include visiting our campus to help assemble supplies, supporting our team with supply drop-off at the event, setting up and breaking down the table, and ensuring materials are neatly organized (separating program resources from general marketing items).
Some events may involve light to moderate lifting, but the effort is always rewarding, especially when children’s faces light up as they discover Dolly’s program and the books.
Even when a child has aged out of DPIL, our team does its best to have an age-appropriate book on hand so that no child feels left out.
