Description

**With all below information. please have a group leader reach out to Alex at imchattanooga@ironmanvolunteers.com for more details or to get your group started with volunteering!!**

IRONMAN Chattanooga is upon us again, with race day in just over one month!! With the amazing numbers of athletes that we get every year comes the need for huge numbers of volunteers. Rather than one Volunteer Director trying to recruit thousands of volunteers by themselves, we are looking for non-profit or school groups (teams, bands, clubs, etc) to bring groups of volunteers to work specific job areas. When these particular groups volunteer, they are also eligible for GRANT FUNDS to further any fundraising needs the group has.

With that said, we are still in need of groups to take on the following jobs at our race; along with the job name, you will find a brief job description, shift times, and numbers of people needed per shift. It is the goal to have each group that volunteers take on and find volunteers for all the shifts in their job:

Crowd Control:
Date: September 24th
Shift times & number of volunteers needed: 6:00am-11:00am, 8:00am-1:30pm, 1:30pm-7:15pm, and 7:15pm until about 11:00pm; 10-12 people needed per shift
Job description: Crowd control volunteers help at Ross's Landing with all of the spectators the event has.  In order to maintain the safety of athletes and spectators, crowd control volunteers will be posted at several locations throughout the venue to manage various crosswalks.  Volunteers may be moved to different locations throughout the shift and you will be on your feet throughout the whole shift!

Run Aid Station (I have 1 run aid station that I need to cover the afternoon/evening shift for):
Date: September 24th
Shift times & number of volunteers needed: Generally, around 5:30pm-11:00pm, 20 people needed
Job description: Volunteers will hand out water and food to athletes as they pass through the aid station.

Bike/Gear Bag Checkout:
Date: September 24th
Shift times & number of volunteers needed: 5:00pm-12:30am (happy to split this into 2 shifts if needed), 20-30 people needed
Job description: Bike Check Out volunteers will help athletes check out their bikes and other gear in the transition area at the conclusion of the race.

Environmental (extra grant money available for this job):
Date: September 23rd-24th
Shift times/number of people:9/23 - 8:00am-1:00pm and 1:00pm-5:00pm; 9/24 - 6:00am-9:00am, 9:00am-1:00pm, 1:00pm-6:00pm, and 7:00pm-midnight, 5-10 volunteers needed per shift
Job description: The goal at Ironman events is to leave the community cleaner than when we arrived. As with any event of this size, Ironman Events generate an enormous amount of garbage. It is our job to manage the extraordinary amount of trash and dispose of it in a proper manner.

The Environmental Team will ensure the venue's garbage is picked up from Friday of race week until race evening.

Examples of tasks are:
-Assembling and placing garbage boxes and liners throughout the site.
-Transporting all trash to the proper
dumpsters located throughout the site and emptying bins that are too full.
-Breaking down all cardboard boxes before placing them in the dumpster

Again, please reach out to the above email with any questions or to get your group started.

Thank you, and we'll see you at the race!
