Tennessee Weslyan College - Love Thy Neighbor Project

Mission: To combat food insecurity both on campus and throughout the surrounding Athens and McMinn County communities.

Housed within the university’s Center for Service and Leadership, LTNP partners with local organizations to expand its reach and effectiveness, encouraging student involvement and service as a way to positively impact the community. This project helps students fulfill service hours while making a tangible difference.

LTNP runs several initiatives to achieve this goal, including:

1. TWU Food Bank: This provides fresh and shelf-stable foods to low-income individuals in McMinn County.
2. Back Sacks Program: Weekend meals are given to local elementary and high school students who might not otherwise have access to food outside of school.
3. Mobile Food Pantry: A monthly event to distribute food to impoverished individuals in McMinn County, focusing on areas identified as food deserts.
