Glass House
Mission: To bring life back to Chattanooga’s Glass Street community through creative revitalization.
A great city depends on great neighborhoods. Glass Street was one once, and we came together to make it great again. In 2012, Glass House Collective was founded to bring life back to Glass Street, and Glass Street back to life in East Chattanooga. Of course we found life already here, and as we’ve listened to neighbors, our plan has focused in on making these historic streets cleaner, safer and more inviting. We’re working to those ends through partnerships and creative placemaking. We believe this work can jumpstart positive change across East Chattanooga and add to the vibrancy of our city as a whole.
Our artist-led, community-involved improvement projects are an opportunity to express the character of the neighborhood. But why art? Why creative events and temporary installations and pop-up storefronts? Because beautiful things made with the community increase pride in that community. It strengthens connections. It creates a sense of place. It brings passersby out of their cars and neighbors out of their homes. It grows relationships and jumpstarts positive action.
