Who We Are
Mission: To provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing dementia.
ABIDE Respite Ministry at First-Centenary United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a service that provides compassionate support to individuals with dementia and their caregivers. The ministry is designed to offer a safe and welcoming environment where those with dementia can engage in meaningful activities, while their caregivers receive much-needed respite and support.
What We Do
Key Features of the ABIDE Respite Ministry:
- Respite for Caregivers: The program offers caregivers a break from the daily demands of caregiving, providing them with time to rest, run errands, or engage in personal activities while knowing their loved ones are in a safe, nurturing environment.
- Activities for Participants: For individuals with dementia, ABIDE offers a variety of structured activities such as music, art, brain fitness, physical exercises, and other hands-on activities that engage cognitive and motor skills. These activities aim to keep participants mentally and physically active, enhancing their overall well-being.
- Community and Support: The ministry fosters a sense of community among participants and their families, promoting companionship, social interaction, and emotional support. This includes a monthly caregiver support group that provides emotional support and a space for caregivers to share experiences and receive guidance.
- Family-Oriented Approach: ABIDE focuses on the whole family, offering emotional support to both participants and caregivers. The program is rooted in Christian values and aims to reflect the love and compassion of Christ through care and service.
