Who We Are

Mission: To protect the gorge’s natural resources, promote responsible land stewardship, and foster a deeper connection between the community and the land.

Founded in 1981, the Tennessee River Gorge Trust (TRGT) is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving the Tennessee River Gorge, a unique and scenic area in southeastern Tennessee. The organization works to ensure that the Tennessee River Gorge remains a cherished resource for future generations. It has successfully protected over 17,000 acres of land, ensuring the area remains free from development and safeguarded for wildlife and public enjoyment.

What We Do

TRGT’s efforts include the acquisition and preservation of land, particularly through conservation easements and land trusts, as well as environmental education initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the importance of the gorge’s biodiversity and natural beauty.

Additionally, the Trust offers educational programs, volunteer opportunities, and various events to engage the community in conservation efforts. They also collaborate with local and regional partners to further enhance the impact of their mission.
