Who We Are
Mission: To protect and promote the stewardship of Lookout Mountain’s scenic, historic, and ecological resources.
Lookout Mountain Conservancy began as Lookout Mountain Protection Agency in 1991 with a donation of 7 acres at the base of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, TN. Since 1991, Lookout Mountain Conservancy has protected over 1400 acres of land across Lookout Mountain in GA and TN. LMC’s flagship program is The Howard School Leadership Program, which began in 2013 and is now a nationally-recognized model for community-centered conservation. Lookout Mountain Conservancy envisions a future where land conservation creates positive transformational change for the environment and our community.
What We Do
The Lookout Mountain Conservancy works with families and landowners to assist them on a voluntary basis to conserve lands that are locally and regionally important along the 93 miles of Lookout Mountain spanning three states: Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia.
Lookout Mountain Conservancy has three major programs:
- Education — fostering a love of the land and learning, as well as increased self-esteem and personal drive using Lookout Mountain as an inspiring outdoor classroom
- Conservation — helping landowners, families and our community conserve important lands critical for clean air, water and food
- Recreation — assisting families, partners and our community in establishing parks, trails and natural areas
