Seed Theatre is a nonprofit organization who started out as a community theatre but has grown into a hub of resources, education and safety for LGBTQIA, BIPOC, disabled, or anyone generally marginalized. Approaching our 7th full year of operation, Seed has 4 areas of work; Performing Arts, Advocacy & Community Care, Markets & Economic Stability, and Direct Aid (our Feed the City Program).
The volunteering ask we have this year is around our food insecurity program.
Feed the City (by Seed Theatre)
Help make sure no one in our community has to choose between going hungry and paying their bills. Our Feed the City volunteers rescue food that would otherwise go to waste, stock community fridges and pantries, sort donations, and help get essential groceries into the hands of neighbors who need them most. This summer we are working toward our biggest goal yet: opening a barrier-free grocery store where anyone can shop for free with dignity—no income requirements, referrals, or paperwork. The space has been obtained, the fridges and freezers were donated, and shelving is on hand. We need your help putting it all together.
What We'll Be Doing
This volunteer day is all about transforming our new space into a welcoming community grocery store. Volunteers will help pick up from where the morning shift ended:
- Sweep, mop, wipe down, and deep clean the space
- Assemble shelving and organize the store layout
- Sort and stock food and hygiene items
- Set up refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas
- Hang signs, decorate, and help create a warm, inviting atmosphere
- Tackle any other projects needed to get us one step closer to opening our doors
- If time allows, help to make snack packs for the 8 community fridges
Whether you can give a few hours or stay all day, your work will have a direct impact on families throughout our community. No special experience is needed—just comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and a willingness to lend a hand. Together, we're building a place where everyone can access healthy food with dignity.
