Open Arms Care Corporation

Mission: To support Tennesseans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), of all ages, to reach their maximum abilities and to lead dignified and meaningful lives.

In 2016, when the State of Tennessee needed a provider to build nine special needs homes in East Tennessee, to assist them in closing the last state run institution, they and the family members came to Open Arms Care because of a long history of delivering quality services and a reputation for doing right, they knew we could get the job done.  Open Arms Care designed and built nine community based homes with the help of our partners, hired and trained 350 new personnel and spent hundreds of hours getting to know the new clients personal, medical, clinical, intellectual needs to assure a seamless transition to a community setting.  We did all that and in May of 2017 we welcomed thirty-six new clients into our family.

Open Arms Care provides a broad array of educational, physical and behavioral learning opportunities designed to assist each client to maximize their personal development and independence.   Each client has an Individual Support Plan (ISP) developed for them based upon a formal assessment of their skills and abilities.  The ISP establishes goals and progress is followed by a team of credentialed professionals.  

Some of the services that OAC offers include:

• Medical Services including 24-hour Nursing care, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy, medication management, mental health care and Dietary Services  
• Vocational Training including prevocational skills and job coaching
• Arts and Leisure services including our renowned Flying Brushes program, music appreciation and gardening
• Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and social development classroom learning, which includes hygiene, counting,  sharing, memory training,  task management, food preparation, shopping, etc.
