McMinn Regional Humane Society
Mission: To provide humane care for the animals in McMinn County, facilitating their adoption or transport to loving homes.
In early 1990, six women met at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Athens, Tennessee to form a humane society that would assist the City of Athens Animal Shelter. The McMinn Regional Humane Society (MRHS) was chartered in September, 1990. By-laws were adopted and officers were seated in October 1990. Our 501(c)(3) was approved in 1991.
The McMinn Regional Humane Society is made up of people who love animals. We are volunteer ran. We do have a spay/neuter clinic staffed by Dr. Ronnie DeForrest. We are located at The Larry Dean Wallace Sr. Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.
We can always use volunteer help with laundry, animal socialization, dog walking, and more! Volunteering starts at age 12-15 with parent/guardian present at all times. At age 16, you can attend without an adult present. Every volunteer must go through an orientation and will be supervised by a Lead Volunteer on-site.
