Who We Are
Mission: To be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
At Girls on the Run, we envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and boldly pursues her dreams. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering 3rd-8th grade girls through a unique program that combines physical activity with lessons in personal development, teamwork, and community engagement.
What We Do
Girls on the Run provides a physical activity-based positive youth development program (PA-PYD) designed to build life skills and foster confidence, resilience, and healthy decision-making.
- Empowering Curriculum: Our research-backed 20-lesson curriculum integrates training for a 5k (3.1-mile) running event with discussions, team-building activities, and workouts. Themes include understanding oneself, valuing relationships, and exploring how we shape and connect with the world.
- Life Skills Development: Participants learn critical skills such as positive self-assertion, effective communication, resisting peer pressure, and countering harmful media messages.
- Community Impact: Through interactive sessions, girls build character, improve peer and adult connections, and develop a sense of contribution to their community.
- Positive Outcomes: Research shows that Girls on the Run participants experience higher self-esteem, improved body image, healthier attitudes toward eating, and increased physical activity. They also develop a supportive peer group and positive role models.
Girls on the Run equips young girls with the tools they need to navigate life confidently, compassionately, and with a strong sense of self-worth. Together, we inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and bold.
