Who We Are
Mission: To combat senior loneliness through handwritten messages of love, hope and joy.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, teenage sisters Shreya and Saffron started writing letters to seniors to ease isolation. When demand grew, they founded Letters Against Isolation (LAI) to serve seniors worldwide. Since 2020, LAI has expanded to reach tens of thousands of seniors in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia. In 2022, LAI became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
What We Do
We’re an all-volunteer organization that mails cheerful, personal, handwritten cards and letters to isolated seniors in care facilities and senior programs in Chattanooga, across Tennessee, throughout all 50 US states and around the world. This at-home opportunity brings joy to both writers and recipients. We write to more than 400 facilities in four countries, sharing letters in more than 30 languages.
