Who We Are

Mission: To develop inquisitive, articulate, and civic-minded individuals who will pursue knowledge throughout their lives and use their unique talents to improve the human condition.

Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts (CSLA) opened in 1991, inspired by the success of Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences. Located on a new campus, CSLA serves a diverse community of students from all nine Hamilton County School Districts, reflecting Chattanooga’s rich tapestry of backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. Guided by a Code of Conduct recited daily, CSLA fosters a supportive environment for students, staff, and parents.

What We Do

CSLA enriches learning through engaging field studies tied to curriculum and Tennessee state standards, such as second graders exploring economics at Dollywood or fifth graders visiting the Biltmore Estate to study the Industrial Revolution. Students benefit from core offerings like foreign language, music, art, technology, and PE, with middle and high schoolers participating in Strings or Band.

Extracurricular opportunities include clubs like Archery, Garden Club, and Drama, as well as middle school sports such as Basketball, Soccer, and Track. Partnerships with Brown Middle School and Central High School provide additional options like football and wrestling.

CSLA’s dedicated faculty, parent involvement, and intentional teacher-student interactions create a nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential as learners, citizens, and individuals.
