Volunteer: It's Your Park! DuPont Park Restoration

Over the last several years, DuPont Park has become a shell of the park it once was. Dead ash trees from beetle infestations, pavilions set ablaze, and park amenities fallen to the wayside.

The good news is, Parks and Outdoors has received a grant from Norfolk Southern to restore this park for the community! Over the last several months, our staff has worked to bring new life to this area. We are almost ready to re-open it to the public, but we need your help adding the finishing touches!

Activities for the day include:

+ Adding lines to a pickleball practice court

+ Adding new hopscotch areas for kids to enjoy

+ Painting the pavilion

+ Constructing a hammock pavilion that doubles as a climbing structure

+ Cutting back overgrown vegetation

This is a huge project, and we need all the help we can get! Please join us for a day of community, fun, and rewarding work. PLUS, we are providing lunch for all of our awesome volunteers*.

Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and to bring a reusable water bottle. Parking will be along the gravel area at the Park, and overflow parking will be along the road running beside the park.

Thank you for considering this opportunity, we hope to see you there!

*If you have any dietary restrictions, please email aadderholt@chattanooga.gov and we will do our very best to accommodate.

Volunteer: Tackle Invasive Plants at the 2026 Weed Wrangle!

The yearly Weed Wrangle is upon us!

Weed Wrangle is a one-day volunteer effort that rescues our public parks and green spaces from non-native invasive species through the hands-on removal of harmful trees, vines, and flowering plants. Beyond our local efforts here in Chattanooga, volunteers across the state (and nation!) will gather together to make a difference one weed at a time.

Supervised by an expert in invasive weed management, Weed Wrangle volunteers learn, practice and begin a habit of maintaining an area free of non-native invasive plants and encourage replanting with natives in removal areas. By engaging our neighbors and challenging them to take action in their own spaces, we hope to create a movement that will have the greatest impact on the invasive plant population.

This year, volunteers will be gripping, ripping, chopping, and lopping away at weeds around the Greenway Farm dog park. We need your help, as invasive plant species are doing what they do best- invading our parks and siphoning resources form native flora and fauna.

The nitty-gritty details:

Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardianPlease wear closed-toed shoes, pants, and a long-sleeve shirtWe recommend bringing a reusable water bottleParking is located across from the Greenway Farm Dog ParkIn the event of inclement weather, we may cancel or reschedule
