Volunteer: Spring DOC 2026 - LIFT Youth Center - R. Randall Rollins Youth Center Spruce-up Day

LIFT Youth Center's Mission: Creating opportunities for students to be Loved as they are, Inspired to be more, Found in community, and Trusted to make a difference. LIFT accomplishes this by providing TWO Youth Centers to serve 6th-12th grade Catoosa County students with a free afterschool program. Our vision is a community where students discover and achieve a healthy, successful future. Between the two centers we hope to serve 500 students this school year.

On 4/17 a group will work at our Youth Center in Fort Oglethorpe to help it shine! We'll do some landscaping (weed control, mulching and pine straw), do some deep cleaning of the inside and outside of the Youth Center, wash and detail our vans, and pick up any trash we can find around the property. It is difficult to find the time to accomplish these tasks, so these volunteers spending this time helping us take good care of our physical plant is a big gift!

There is plenty of parking at the Youth Center. There will be low and high impact jobs to do. Close-toed shoes would be wise. All tools and materials will be provided - you may want to bring work gloves. Water and shade will be provided as needed, but you may want to wear sunscreen. We will also have a group do this at our Youth Center in Ringgold.

They act as a friendly human information resource, dedicated to enhancing the visitor experience by providing helpful information about the park, the Department, and Chattanooga as a whole.

Commitment: Park Stewards commit to adopting a specific park site or trail/area section and visiting their assigned location a minimum of two times per month for one year.

Volunteer: Adopt-A-Meal at Ronald McDonald House

At Ronald McDonald House, we aim to make families feel "at home" while their children are receiving care in the hospital by providing warm, home-cooked meals during their stay. If you'd like to provide some relief to families enduring a medical crisis, you can "Adopt-A-Meal"!

Here's how it works:

You bring your group (family, church, club, company, organization, etc.) You provide the ingredients*You come to the Ronald McDonald House to prepare the meal for all of our House guests (around 60 people, depending on our current capacity) on-site, in our Great KitchenYou may also stick around to plate and serve the families at mealtime, if you'd like!

*Groups who are unable to provide their own ingredients may still be able to Adopt A Meal. Talk to Melissa about alternative options. You also have the option to order food from a store or restaurant, if you have the budget for that.

For more details or to schedule a date to participate in the volunteer activity, please contact Melissa Miburn at Melissa.Milburn@rmhchattanooga.com

More info from Melissa:

The group would start with the idea of which meal slot would work best for them ( breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and then we would look for open dates on our meal calendar.   Most of the groups keep the number of volunteers around 6-8 people due to the size of the kitchen space and to help keep the families from being overwhelmed when they come into the kitchen for the meal.  The actual meal prepared would need to be made on site in the Great Kitchen or purchased from either a grocery store or restaurant.   The Great Kitchen is stocked with an assortment of pots and pans, cooking utensils, serving utensils and plates/ utensils for the families to eat off.   The meal is prepared buffet style that the families can then help themselves to during the allotted meal time and then whatever food is left over, that is placed in our re-heatable containers that the families can reheat when they return from the hospital.

Please email volunteer Lindsay for support. HOW YOU CAN HELP Join our team of volunteers and commit to writing letters on an ongoing basis.Focus your message on sharing a bit about yourself to make each letter unique and special. You can send multiple letters in one large envelope to save on postage. We offer a stamp fund for seniors and students (ID required). You won’t know the name of the reader. Address letters as “Dear Friend.”This is not a pen pal program; while you may occasionally receive a response, most seniors don’t have the physical ability or resources to write back to you.We have no staff, physical office, or phone. Please email volunteer Lindsay for support. HOW YOU CAN HELP Join our team of volunteers and commit to writing letters on an ongoing basis.Focus your message on sharing a bit about yourself to make each letter unique and special. Seniors tell us that these personal stories are their favorite part of the letter!Limit affirmations and general well wishes, as they can come across as impersonal when overused.Avoid sensitive topics such as religion, holidays, health and politics.Keep your message positive! While handcrafted cards are welcome, they are not required; your handwritten message is what matters most.Create a group activity for your friends, employees, co-workers, classroom or club members.Team up with a public library to host a letter-writing event.Post our flyer on social media and community bulletin boards at libraries, cafes, bookstores, stationery and craft stores, and apartment complexes. WHY VOLUNTEER WITH US Make a direct and tangible difference in the lives of seniors who may be feeling isolated or lonely.Contribute to a positive and inclusive community dedicated to spreading kindness and compassion.Experience connection and satisfaction that comes from knowing your words have the power to bring joy and comfort to someone you've never met. Volunteer: Wildlife Animal Care Volunteers

At Opie Acres the work is on going 365 days a year. We have from 75-200 animals in care at all time. The work is physical and dirty, at times, but it is very rewarding. Volunteers are required a minimum of 4 hours per week to stay current in specific care duties. As a volunteer you will learn species specific diets, cage care, infant care, elderly care and basic first aid. As you learn, you can expand your duties and possibly qualify as an advanced team member, caring for our more unusual and difficult patients and resident. You could join our medical Team and learn how to give life saving care, special feeding, and care taking duties, medicine administration, and wound care. We work outdoors and indoors, which requires us to be outside in inclement weather. If you are unable to perform the more physical task, we have plenty of duties in our food processing and preparation, and also in our infant care. Please consider joining us so that we can continue our care for these forgotten animals.
