Volunteer: Adopt-A-Meal at Ronald McDonald HouseAt Ronald McDonald House, we aim to make families feel "at home" while their children are receiving care in the hospital by providing warm, home-cooked meals during their stay. If you'd like to provide some relief to families enduring a medical crisis, you can "Adopt-A-Meal"! Here's how it works: You bring your group (family, church, club, company, organization, etc.) You provide the ingredients*You come to the Ronald McDonald House to prepare the meal for all of our House guests (around 60 people, depending on our current capacity) on-site, in our Great KitchenYou may also stick around to plate and serve the families at mealtime, if you'd like!*Groups who are unable to provide their own ingredients may still be able to Adopt A Meal. Talk to Melissa about alternative options. You also have the option to order food from a store or restaurant, if you have the budget for that. For more details or to schedule a date to participate in the volunteer activity, please contact Melissa Miburn at Melissa.Milburn@rmhchattanooga.com More info from Melissa: The group would start with the idea of which meal slot would work best for them ( breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and then we would look for open dates on our meal calendar. Most of the groups keep the number of volunteers around 6-8 people due to the size of the kitchen space and to help keep the families from being overwhelmed when they come into the kitchen for the meal. The actual meal prepared would need to be made on site in the Great Kitchen or purchased from either a grocery store or restaurant. The Great Kitchen is stocked with an assortment of pots and pans, cooking utensils, serving utensils and plates/ utensils for the families to eat off. The meal is prepared buffet style that the families can then help themselves to during the allotted meal time and then whatever food is left over, that is placed in our re-heatable containers that the families can reheat when they return from the hospital. Volunteer: Adapt-A-Toy Mondays- Assistive Technology Services
Looking for a meaningful and hands-on volunteer opportunity this fall? Join us for Adapt-A-Toy Mondays at Signal Centers and help create accessible play experiences for children with disabilities. Each Monday, we invite small groups to volunteer in our Assistive Technology program by adapting battery-operated toys to make them usable for children with limited mobility or motor skills. This is a powerful way to promote inclusion while engaging in a fun, team-building activity. No technical background required, we’ll guide you through the entire process. This opportunity is especially great for corporate volunteer groups looking to give back in a direct, impactful way. Important Note: Participants will bring a toy with them to adapt during the session. Upon signing up, your group will receive simple guidelines on what types of toys are best to bring (affordable, easy-to-modify, and suitable for switch adaptation). Why It Matters: Adapted toys can be quite expensive and are often out of reach for many families. Your group’s time and care help make accessible play possible for children with disabilities, at no cost to them. What to Expect: Brief training and orientation from our Assistive Technology staff, and an overview of disability inclusion and accessible design with a collaborative and rewarding team experience. Agency: Signal Centers, Inc.

Volunteer: Dinner ClubDinnertime is special here at Welcome Home. It's a sacred time where our residents, volunteers, and staff can come together to share a delicious meal and open conversation. We could use your help. Typically, our team is rather held up with caregiving and could use some help with providing meals for our residents. On average, we have around 12 people attending dinner or taking meals in their homes. The residents love when they get to spend time with the folks bringing their meals, but it's definitely not a requirement to stay. Dinner is typically served around 5:30PM. You can drop off the day before/day of or cook in our kitchen. Meal examples include Publix fried chicken, casseroles, BBQ, soups, Chinese food, etc. Agency: Welcome Home of Chattanooga Dinnertime is special here at Welcome Home.
