Join us for a pop-up earth week project Friday, April 23rd at DuPont Park in Hixson from 1-3 pm (or another time if it works best for the whole group!). 

The final touch before reopening this park will be to sand and paint the pavilion! This is an easy project for a small group of friends, a church group, a civic organization, small corporate team, etc... 

Volunteers are encouraged to bring a face mask to prevent breathing in the sanded-off paint.

Help us prepare our planters for spring! Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors is searching for volunteers who are ready to get their hands dirty in exchange for the gratification of knowing you made our city a little more beautiful. 

Volunteers will support staff in planting 50 planters with annuals along Broad Street, in the center median between W 3rd and W Aquarium Way.

Tools, gloves and instruction will be provided! This is a great opportunity to get the whole family together to make a visible impact.

Camp is for everyone at Creative Discovery Museum!  CDM is looking for volunteers to serve as camp assistants at our school age and Friends’ Discovery camps.  Help our campers explore, innovate, create, and play all summer long.  Campers will explore CDM's exhibits, tackle STEAM challenges, and make new friends - creating lifelong memories!

Camp Assistant Responsibilities:

·         Support camp staff with daily summer camp activities using provided plans, including fun, hands-on experiences designed for different age groups.

·         Engage with campers through playful learning that sparks curiosity, creativity, and exploration.

·         Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment where every camper feels comfortable and valued.

·         Model kindness, patience, and respect while supporting campers’ positive behavior and social-emotional growth.

·         Work alongside camp staff to help the day run smoothly and assist wherever needed.

·         Help with setting up activities, preparing materials, cleaning up, and guiding campers during transitions throughout the day.

Time Commitment:

·         Camps run weekly in June and July (excluding the week of June 29 to July 3).

·         Volunteers must commit to a minimum of two days per selected week of camp.  Volunteers with weeklong availability are preferred.

·         Shift times vary by the type of camp (school age or Friends’ Discovery Camp).  Typical shifts are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for Friends’ Discovery Camp

Requirements:

·         Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age

·         All volunteers are required to attend a camp training led by CDM staff

We are looking for volunteers to help with the Cha Jazz Fest this year! Oct. 25th 11am-7pm

This will be broken into primarily two shifts:

7:30am-11am for equipment load in/setup

6pm-8:30pm for load out and tear down/clean up

There really isn't much to do when the event gets up and going, but the load in is the shift we usually need the most help with! 

Tasks will include: Carrying tents, chairs, banners, signage, tables, coordinating with vendors, directing people to the festival, and loading out equipment as well. 

Join us at Carver Park for an invasive species removal showdown. We will be focusing exclusively on the removal of Chinese yam (Dioscorea polystachya) in the stream buffer habitat.

You'll be given an in-depth introduction to plant identification and invasive species removal techniques. Following that introduction, you will have one hour to remove as much yam as possible (you must remove the full tuber to count towards your total). After time is up, we will determine who will be crowned the Tater Town Showdown Champion. A first place prize will be awarded to our champion.

Volunteers are a vital part of the Public Guardianship for the Elderly program. Individuals provide support to SETAAAD's guardianship program by volunteering as a Friendly Visitor or being active with administrative duties. As a Friendly Visitor, volunteers are paired with a guardianship client and spend time with them each month and identify any needs or concerns. The role of volunteers is beneficial to the operations of the program as an extra set of eyes of the client to identify any needs or concerns which otherwise may go unnoticed between visits by the district Public Guardian. Volunteers also build relationships with clients, helping reduce isolation and promote overall wellbeing.

Be a Hero - Volunteer!  MyRide Volunteer Drivers provide a vital service for adults, 60 years or older, for a senior transportation program in Bradley and Hamilton Counties. We provide door-through-door transportation for essential trips. This program helps older adults who can walk on their own or with assistance from a walker or cane with transportation.

The Lula Lake Land Trust stewardship team invites you to a trail work day in honor of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We’ll be meeting at the Core Preserve property (5000 Lula Lake Rd., Lookout Mountain, GA).

Volunteers will help build a new section of trail on our Moonshine trail system using hand tools to clear vegetation, remove debris, and shape the tread. Work will include loosening and moving soil, smoothing the trail surface, and establishing proper drainage to create a safe, sustainable path for generations of trail users to come! No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to get your hands dirty and work as part of a team!

You will be stationed at the "All You Can Treat" snack bar for dogs and offer samples of the variety of snacks to dogs *only giving treats out with owner's permission*. Answer any questions about the samples. Ensure the snack bar stays clean and functional. One sample of each treat to each dog until supplies run out.

You will be stationed at the "sniff station" and will guide dogs / owners to the start and answer any questions about the process. Ensure the stations stay clean and functional - resetting stations as necessary.

Managing the photo booth for guests. Helping them take photos as necessary. Hanging photos on our photo wall. Ensuring equipment is handled properly and is not damaged.

Operate as the point of contact at the merchandise booth. Encouraging purchases and accepting payments when guests want to purchase something.

Helping break down event booths and photo ops. packing up water stations, signage and any left over merchandise. Wishing all visitors safe travels and thanking them for coming. Directing vendors to where they should park to pack up.

Helping with setting up event booths and decorating photo op spots. Hanging signage and making sure trash reciprocals are in an accessible and visible spot. Volunteer to provide emergency mental health care to survivors of disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, or home fires.

This important volunteer role will respond to local disasters and provide Disaster Mental Health (DMH) services to clients and Red Cross workers during preparedness, response, and recovery within a chapter or region following local disasters.

This position is responsible for responding during local emergencies to provide Disaster Mental Health interventions and help facilitate long-term recovery for clients impacted by a disaster and assist the chapter in developing partnerships with local mental health agencies.

Experience and up to date credentials are required for this particular role. All Red Cross training will be provided during onboarding. 

Disasters don't have schedules. That is why we work with our volunteer workforce based on need as well as their availability.

This role can be virtual or in person.

On May 16, 2026 in Spring City, TN, the Aquarium and its partners will host the Second Annual Laurel Dace Day with a 5k, 10k, Half Mile Fun Run and celebration to support the critically endangered Laurel Dace.

Laurel Dace Day wouldn’t be possible without the generous help from our community members as volunteers. We’ll need help with setting up the races, passing out snacks and water, guiding vendors to booth locations, and more.

A follow up caseworker would follow up with clients after a disaster, and be a resource within the community. This position is on call based on your schedule and follows up with clients once per week to ensure active recovery, and connect clients with other agencies for specific needs.

Ideally, availability for at least 2 rides per month if possible. Appoinments will likely take place during weekdays, sometime between 9a-5p. Background check required.

Dinnertime is special here at Welcome Home. It's a sacred time where our residents, volunteers, and staff can come together to share a delicious meal and open conversation. We could use your help.

On average, you would be providing dinner for 10-12 people. The residents love when they get to spend time with those who are bringing the meals, but it's definitely not a requirement to stay. Dinner is typically served around 5:30PM. You can drop off the day before/day of or cook in our kitchen.

Serve as a reception volunteer at the front desk at Momentum Network! Be part of Momentum Network's mission to equip and empower college student-moms by welcoming visitors, answering the phone, and supporting the team with administrative tasks.

Every year, our Spring Festival brings life, laughter, and families from all over the area to the South Chattanooga Community Center. It is a day our local kids look forward to for months—but to make the magic happen, we need you.

We are currently looking for volunteers for May 7th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Whether you have the full three hours to give or can only drop by for the second half of the event, your time makes a massive difference. Once you sign up, we will be in touch to see what position and shift interests you!

Concessions & Food Service
Machine Operator (Adults Only): Responsible for operating the popcorn and cotton candy machines. Requires following safety guidelines and managing high heat equipment.

Concessions Assistant: Works alongside an adult to hand out light "grab-and-go" food items to families. Keeps the serving stations stocked and ensures napkins and condiments are available for guests.

Fun & Games Crew
Bounce House Monitor: Ensures the safety of children entering and exiting the bounce house. Manages the timer to make sure everyone gets a turn and monitors the number of jumpers at one time.

Game & Craft Station Leader: Manages various carnival-style games or craft tables. Explains the rules to children, distributes craft supplies, and cheers on the participants!

Bike Riding Assistant: Helps coordinate the bike riding area, ensuring participants have helmets and stay within the designated riding boundaries.

Event Support & Logistics
Floater: A flexible role for those who may arrive later in the window. Floaters fill in for breaks, help manage lines, and step in wherever the crowd is largest.

"Final Stretch" Clean-up Crew: While all volunteers help tidy their areas, this crew focuses on the 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM window to break down tables, stack chairs, and ensure the community center is left in great shape.

Park Stewards are vital community members dedicated to enhancing the environmental health, safety, and beauty of Chattanooga’s diverse park system. This includes our neighborhood parks, playgrounds, greenways, trails, and natural areas. By adopting a specific location, stewards provide consistent care, serve as helpful eyes and ears on the ground, and help foster a culture of appreciation and responsible use for our shared outdoor spaces.

Responsibilities: Park Stewards work collaboratively with Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors staff and engage in a range of hands-on activities and observational duties tailored to their assigned site and chosen focus area.

Core responsibilities include:
- Performing light maintenance tasks such as picking up litter and debris, clearing hard surfaces, cleaning park furniture and signs, removing weeds, and trimming overgrown vegetation.
- Assisting with basic horticultural and conservation efforts, including caring for trees/plants, and supporting habitat restoration initiatives.
- Monitoring the condition of park amenities, trails, and natural features, and reporting maintenance needs, damage, or hazardous conditions promptly.
- Serving as a welcoming and approachable representative of Chattanooga Parks, providing general information to visitors and encouraging adherence to park rules and responsible use.
- Observing and reporting unusual or suspicious activity to appropriate staff or authorities.


Focus Areas: While serving as a Park Steward, you will have the opportunity to specialize and concentrate your efforts within one of the following focus areas, aligning your volunteer work with your interests and the specific needs of your adopted site:
- General Park Care: Primarily focused on the upkeep and visitor experience within developed parks, playgrounds, and recreation center grounds.
- Trail & Greenway Care: Primarily focused on the maintenance and accessibility of designated trails and greenways.
- Ecological Stewardship: Primarily focused on conservation activities, habitat support, and care of natural areas, rain gardens, or other environmental assets within the park system.
- Signature Park Ambassador: Signature Park Ambassadors are volunteers who serve as welcoming and knowledgeable representatives of Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors at designated, high-traffic "signature" park locations (Coolidge Park, Renaissance Park, Montague Park/Sculpture Fields, Miller Park, Ross's Landing, Greenway Farm, TN Riverpark, & Warner Park). They act as a friendly human information resource, dedicated to enhancing the visitor experience by providing helpful information about the park, the Department, and Chattanooga as a whole.

Commitment: Park Stewards commit to adopting a specific park site or trail/area section and visiting their assigned location a minimum of two times per month for one year.

Requirements: To serve as a Park Steward, volunteers must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old, or 15 years old if accompanied by a supervising adult.
- Successfully pass a background check.
- Possess the ability to work independently while following direction from Parks staff.
- Be comfortable interacting professionally and courteously with the public, other volunteers, and park staff.
- Demonstrate commitment to the mission and goals of Chattanooga Parks & Outdoors.
- Be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions and on natural terrain.
- Provide their own transportation to and from their volunteer site.
- Wear appropriate outdoor clothing and required closed-toe shoes while volunteering.
- Attend program orientation and any specific training relevant to their chosen focus area and assigned tasks.
- Adhere to all park rules, regulations, and volunteer policies.

Support: Park Stewards are supported by the Parks Maintenance staff and receive guidance and coordination from the Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator, who serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers.

Impact: By consistently dedicating their time and effort within their chosen focus area, Park Stewards are fundamental partners in ensuring that Chattanooga's parks, trails, greenways, and natural areas remain beautiful, safe, and accessible for the enjoyment of all residents and visitors, now and for future generations.

The most memorable part of a guest’s experience is often the interactions they have along the way. Guest Ambassadors play an extremely important role in creating a warm, welcoming, and informative experience for every visitor.

Guest Ambassadors provide directions, answer general questions, and assist guests in navigating the Aquarium to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit. Volunteers in this role may also have the opportunity to occasionally serve as a mascot in one of our nine mascot costumes, bringing added fun and excitement to guest interactions.

More complex inquiries will be referred to the Visitor Services or Education Mentors teams.

The purpose of this role is to assist the Education Department engaging guests in the Aquarium to enhance their visit.

Education Volunteers are stationed throughout the galleries to interpret exhibits, animals, and plants by offering educational information to visitors through interpretation and storytelling.

Being an Education Volunteer is a combination of correct educational information, using appropriate guest interaction techniques, and good customer service. Please note that Education Volunteers do not work directly with animals.

What's often standing between people with cancer and life-saving treatment is a ride to get there. 

Volunteers with Road To Recovery use their personal vehicle to drive cancer patients with limited or no transportation to treatments.  

Rides are weekdays. We encourage drivers provide 2 rides per month. Choose the rides that work with your schedule. We think you'll find it a flexible and rewarding volunteer experience while helping your community.

Help newcomer youths in the Chattanooga community work towards their educational, vocational, and personal goals. Volunteer mentors will be paired with a youth between the ages of 15 and 24. In this role you'll welcome individuals and groups to Outdoor Chattanooga’s front desk. The Outdoor Chattanooga Phillip Grimes Center is the fun, blue building nestled in between the North Shore and Coolidge Park. Visitors to the building may be locals or tourists and vary in ages and demographics.

This building is home to Outdoor Chattanooga staff as well as some of the City's Department of Parks and Outdoors Department. The building also serves as a meeting place for events with ties to our greater mission as well as programs and other fun events and meet-ups.

Tasks you may do include:

A positive attitude and willingness to learn are great attributes to bring to this role. General skills in customer service, in supporting a welcoming environment, dependability and knowledge of Chattanooga and/or outdoor recreation activities is helpful.

*No specific experience with answering phones, outdoor recreation, or technical expertise is needed.

There is a minimum of one, 3-hour shift per month. Preference for a weekly commitment of one, 3-hour shift when possible. Shifts include weekdays from 8am - 4:30pm.

At Ronald McDonald House, we aim to make families feel "at home" while their children are receiving care in the hospital by providing warm, home-cooked meals during their stay. If you'd like to provide some relief to families enduring a medical crisis, you can "Adopt-A-Meal"!

The group would start with the idea of which meal slot would work best for them ( breakfast, lunch, or dinner) and then we would look for open dates on our meal calendar.   Most of the groups keep the number of volunteers around 6-8 people due to the size of the kitchen space and to help keep the families from being overwhelmed when they come into the kitchen for the meal.  The actual meal prepared would need to be made on site in the Great Kitchen or purchased from either a grocery store or restaurant.   The Great Kitchen is stocked with an assortment of pots and pans, cooking utensils, serving utensils and plates/ utensils for the families to eat off.   The meal is prepared buffet style that the families can then help themselves to during the allotted meal time and then whatever food is left over, that is placed in our re-heatable containers that the families can reheat when they return from the hospital.

The Family Room, located inside Erlanger's Children's Hospital, is a peaceful, home-like space where families of patients can enjoy a meal, take a shower, and wash their clothing. This space is provided by Ronald McDonald House, a nonprofit which strives to create a "home away from home" for families whose children are receiving care in a hospital.

The Volunteer's main responsibility is to maintain a friendly and home-like atmosphere in the Family Room. Specific duties include:

Adopt-a-Park is a new initiative from the City of Chattanooga Department of Parks and Outdoors designed to foster community partnerships that enhance our parks and greenways. This program offers corporate and civic groups a unique opportunity to directly impact the environmental and aesthetic quality of Chattanooga's outdoor spaces.

Every child that comes through our doors has the opportunity to visit Brock’s Wall. Brock’s Wall, named in memory of Brock Lord, is a cubby wall that holds donated items that a child can choose from to take home. Choosing an item off of Brock’s Wall, whether that be a teddy bear or snack, provides comfort to a child who just shared their experience. These donations are the difference between a child leaving discouraged to a child feeling hopeful for the future. These donations have a meaning far deeper than we understand. The Support Squad schedule is as follows:

October 1 – December 31: Individually wrapped snacks

January 1 – March 31: Take-Aways (Funko Pops, Rubix Cubes, Chapter Books, etc.)

We’re an all-volunteer organization that mails cheerful, personal, handwritten letters and cards to elders in care facilities and senior programs. Since April 2020, our dedicated volunteers have sent countless letters and cards in 30 languages, spreading joy and connection around the globe!

*Students and professionals requesting official documentation for community service credit should review our Community Service Guidelines and then complete our Registration Form. You’ll work 1:1 with a member of our Student Liaison Team. You will be asked to submit photos of your work for verification. We award one hour of community service credit for every four letters written & sent that meet our guidelines.

McKamey Animal Center is seeking volunteers who are passionate about inspiring others to create a better world for the animals who need us the most. 2025 will be a challenging year for shelters nationwide, and MAC is no different. We need all the help we can get to ensure the best quality of life for the animals we serve. That all starts with making sure our volunteers are trained properly.

Volunteer Coaches will be the first set of friendly, helpful faces that new volunteers encounter when they come into the shelter for the first few shifts. These coaches will be responsible for ensuring all Volunteers are trained effectively and are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to make an impact on the lives of the animals we serve. Coaches will be asked to work with new volunteers in specific roles within the program. Coaches are asked to work with at least two volunteers per month, and may accept as many as they are comfortable with. Coaches will be provided training on the role (Canine Companions, Feline Friends, etc...) from a current coach, and will be provided a checklist to ensure they cover all of the most important information. 

Coaching areas:

- Shelter Stewards: All of the basic functions that help us operate efficiently day-to-day. These tasks include, but are not limited to, laundry, dishes, sweeping/mopping, cleaning windows, changing trash bins, etc...

- Feline Friends: As the name suggests, these volunteers are all about the kitties! Coaches will teach new volunteers how to create and distribute cat enrichment, how to safely socialize, and how to clean/spot clean cat condos.

- Canine Companions: These Volunteers get the opportunity to love on thousands of dogs each year. Coaches will teach volunteers how to create/distribute enrichment, take the pups on walks and to our play yards, how to clean/spot clean kennels, and so much more.

To address hunger in our communities, the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga is partnering with the USDA's Food Service Program to help provides free meals to children aged up to 18 during the summer and after school hours.

What do we need:

The YMCA is looking for Volunteers and Teams to prepare meals daily.

We have openings Monday-Friday anytime between 8am-2pm.The shifts are flexible but we ask that you be available to volunteer for at least 2 hours. Saturday mornings are available by appointment only, for a minimum of ten volunteers.

We prepare and make all of the meals ourselves at our Food & Fun Kitchen. It is very easy and fun! A Tech Goes Home trainer is a community advocate who bridges the digital divide by empowering others through technology. Ideally, trainers come from the community they serve to build trust and tailor the curriculum to specific needs. Trainers can be connected with the partner organization or the wider community.  Classes are held in convenient locations like libraries, churches, or recreation centers with trainers covering their own travel.

We take donations from large companies and redistribute them to about 100 area rescues, food pantries, shelters, sanctuaries, and TNR groups.  We are in need of volunteers in the warehouse to help us with the following:

This is a warehouse with no air.  We do have fans, but we want to make sure you understand that it does get hot in the warehouse.

Caris Healthcare loves having special project items to deliver to our patients. Special projects can be made by individuals, school groups, quilting circles and more, and previously donated items include lap blankets, pillows, and cards.  Patients and their caregivers are so appreciative of these gifts and the fact that people have volunteered their time to bring them joy. Special project volunteers will not have patient contact, and items would be collected in our office or at a designated pickup location. Items can be connected to special holidays and birthdays, but there's no requirement, and creativity is welcome!

We are looking for caring individuals to provide companionship to hospice patients who are on service with Caris through the Chattanooga office. Companionship may involve sitting and reminiscing, reading to a patient, or playing a musical instrument to brighten their day. We also have opportunities for certified and trained therapy pets and their handlers to do patient visits. 

Patient care volunteers can choose to volunteer in a facility or in home and must complete in person and online training before they are able to go in the field. Help support patients in need and share your heart with hospice!

Our coverage area includes Bledsoe, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion and Sequatchie counties.

WHAT?
Youth/Family volunteers will practice their interaction skills helping our young Zoo guests engage in interactive play in our Nature Play Playground. They will lead activities making leaf rubbings, building a bird’s nest, using Keeper tools to hook rubber snakes, and matching animal pictures to the correct skulls and footprints.

LENGTH?
Shifts are either 10am to 12:00 noon, or 1:30pm to 3:30pm Wednesdays through Saturdays.

WHO?
Youth ages 8 to 17 years old. A parent or guardian must accompany each youth ages 8-15 for the duration of their shift.

Volunteers are specially trained volunteers who wear many hats within the Zoo. Opportunities in this area include talking with our Zoo guests about the animals throughout the Zoo, conducting private mini Zoo Tours to families, assisting with busses arriving for school field trips, Education Carts, talks for Keeper Training Sessions, assisting during Zoo guest giraffe feedings, and more. After volunteering the required hours, volunteers on this Track can request to train on handling and interpreting utilizing our Animal Ambassadors such as turtles, hedgehogs, doves, bearded dragons, chinchillas, ferrets, rabbits, and more. This Track is flexible in days you can volunteer and physical abilities. If you are looking to volunteer only once or twice a month without a set schedule, this is the opportunity for you.
